Electrotank Liberates Gaming Communities with Unparalleled Multiplayer Server Release
For Immediate Release
Growing large gaming or social networking communities requires reliably connecting the largest number of users via ElectroServer™ 4.
ELM CITY, N.C. - Jan. 11, 2008 --- Supporting hundreds of thousands of simultaneous users for real-time interaction is accomplished only by acquiring the most recent release of North Carolina-based Electrotank's ElectroServer 4 (ES4) technology, recognized in the massive multiplayer online entertainment universe as the backbone of many successful environments including Webkinz® World and game communities created for VH1®, Comedy Central®, and Mattel®. ElectroServer 4 is ideal for companies building virtual worlds or MMOGs. For innovative independent game development studio Electrotank, massive takes on a whole new meaning as the numbers are cranked up - ES4 has been proven to handle 200,000 concurrent users. Whether the need is to support 500 users or is scaled up to 200,000, the server provides a way for users to interact real-time for chatting, gaming, and even audio/video chats. The audio/video tool set enables traditional live streaming as well as recording an event in real-time and storing it for future playback. Webcams and microphones can be used for real-time audio/video interaction between users.
"The growth of gaming across virtually all demographic sectors including kids, teens, working executives - both male and female, and even seniors - is driving immense technological innovation," said Electrotank Co-Founder Robert Firebaugh. "Performance is a key element - if there are reliability or support issues with one interactive experience, MMOGers move on to another - a great loss and at great cost to companies."
According to Electrotank CTO Mike Grundvig, the ElectroServer product functions seamlessly as a socket-server, originating from high-quality open source frameworks either in standalone mode or distributed across multiple server installations. ElectroServer 4 gives developers more features while shaving weeks or months off of development time. ES4's tiered licensing pinpoints bottom-line expenditure with greater value on all levels.
"Getting into gaming is a straightforward play," said Firebaugh. "One myth is that breaking into this industry successfully can only be accomplished with significant investment in technology resources - ES4 is aimed at debunking that belief."
While ElectroServer 4 Professional is designed for single servers on the lower end - those which carry between 500 and 5000 concurrent players and up to 750 audio and video connections, ElectroServer 4 Enterprise version operates either in standalone or distributed mode, with scalable support for 10,000 to 200,000 concurrent players. Pricepoints start at $700 for the Professional edition and at $4400 for the Enterprise version.
Traditional game or MMOG developers understand that by finding a gaming server solution that they can trust for performance and scalability allows them to focus on what’s important – creating great experience. "If ES4 helps companies reach their target market affordably and reliably – meeting and surpassing all scaling and performance requirements - companies can connect with gamers to achieve success," added Firebaugh.

MMO Flash Games with Real-time A/V Streaming Become Feasible!
For Immediate Release
Electrotank® Offers Public Demonstration of Full Audio & Video Streaming Support on Economical and Scalable Next Generation Flash® Multiplayer Game Development Platform ElectroServer™ 4 at Austin GDC.
Austin Game Developers Conference, Austin, TX - September 6, 2007 - Electrotank announced that it will publicly demonstrate audio and video streaming integration in the newest version of its Flash multiplayer development platform at the Austin Game Developers Conference. The company’s latest Flash multiplayer development platform, ElectroServer 4 (ES4) is slated for release later this month. ES4 is the first Flash Media Server alternative to offer game developers the ability to economically build scalable MMO Flash games that incorporate real-time Flash video and audio streaming.
”Any developer will tell you how important audio is to the user experience,” remarked Jobe Makar, president of Electrotank and a game developer himself. “Put real-time audio and video into a Flash multiplayer online game and you have the potential to create remarkably unique play experiences.”
In addition to streaming live events (one-to-many), this A/V capability allows Flash gamers to use their webcams and microphones to participate in private or public group video chats within the Flash game application. Any server-bound real-time video or audio can also be recorded to a file for future playback. Historically, real-time streaming video has been absent and audio required the use of third party software in online games due to the technical complexities and costs involved in integration. With Electroserver 4, these limitations are greatly reduced.
Disney® acquisition target wannabes take note: ElectroServer is the underlying technology supporting the hugely successful (3.8 million active users) MMO world of Webkinz®. Electrotank’s previous 2003 release, ElectroServer 3, was the first real-time Flash multiplayer platform to offer developers a “zone and room” object-oriented architecture. Because it was both easily extensible and scalable, it became a popular development tool to implement high traffic, real-time MMO games for companies like Comedy Central®, Mattel®, Miniclip®, and Nickelodeon®.
ElectroServer 4 offers developers a hefty toolkit of extension options and a rich API to extend and modify the capabilities of the server. “Frankly, when we began to develop this platform, we had no idea we would be able to pull this level of functionality off in way that would be so economical and efficient for developers,” said Mike Grundvig, who architected the server side components of the platform. Grundvig will be speaking to the Austin Game Developers Conference about Online Games Technology and Services in Hall 6B at 11am on Thursday, September 6.
See it at GDC
Electrotank offers ongoing live demonstrations of its ElectroServer platform at Booth 500 of the Austin GDC Expo on Thursday and Friday September 6-7th. Jobe Makar and Michael Grundvig, the creators, are available to speak with Press.
