Webkinz World is an immersive online isometric avatar environment where people adopt virtual pets and interact with them. With over 3.8 million unique visits per month Webkinz is one of the most popular games on the web! ElectroServer is used to support this intense load.

The Experience

Kids show up to Barbie Chat and choose a unique username using fun random name generator. They can then choose from a list of several names. Once they are in the chat, they can watch what the conversation in the chat window. Kids can send chat messages by using a set of pre-canned questions and responses that are context sensitive to the topic.

Solution

By using server-side plugins the developers of this chat were able to create AI versions of Barbie and her friends. The AI bots carry on conversations and detect when a human-driven person talks. The AI characters respond appropriately so that they can carry on a conversation!
