Overview

World Series of Pop Culture is a game show that airs once a year on VH1. In a bracketed tournament teams of pop culture phenoms are pitted against each other until one team prevails. The site www.worldofpop.com is the online companion site with both single and multiplayer games and some amazing community features.

The Experience

Users register with the site, create an avatar, and play single and multiplayer games to better their ratings. While playing games users can chat using the integrated chat system. Users can add buddies to their buddy list so that they can see when they are online. When users compete in multiplayer games they can increase their user rating be defeating other users. There are daily top ten lists displayed for every game.

Solution

ElectroServer was chosen as the underlying technology to deliver source content to the games and to drive the chat and multipalyer games. Every game on the site including single player games use ElectroServer to load the game content, such as trivia questions. ElectroServer utilized a Login Event Handler, database connections, Java plugins, and Managed Objects to achieve the goals of this community site.
